Germany to speed up solar expansion

Germany has announced a new comprehensive photovoltaic strategy that aims to significantly accelerate the expansion of solar energy, with the goal of reaching an installed capacity of 215GW by 2030. For this year, an interim target of 9 GW applies and in Q1 2023 newly installed capacity reached almost 2.7 GW. The plan includes increasing ground-mounted systems by 11GW per year from 2026, increasing roof-mounted solar systems by 11GW per year from 2026, and promoting the installation of solar panels on communal building balconies. The strategy also aims to simplify the grid connections of both ground-mounted systems and roof systems and increase the number of skilled workers for the manufacture, planning, installation, and maintenance of PV systems.
